자주쓰이는 nothing but 과 anything but에 대해서
설명하도록 하겠습니다.

이건 간단한 표현이니 예문부터 일단 보여드리도록 하죠.

She is nothing but sexy.
She is anything but sexy.

일단 첫문장에서 but의 의미는 ~을 제외하고 라는 가정의
뜻을 나타냅니다. 따라서 첫문장의 의미는
그녀는 섹시하다는 것을 제외하고는 아무것도 아니다 라는
말이 될 수도 있는데 약간 부정적인 의미로 들립니다.
그럼 예문을 한번 들어볼까요?

A: Did you watch Park's game yesterday?
B: Yes, i was so happy that Manchester won the game.
A: How was park?
B: He is nothing but running.
A: I suppose that's the only thing he can do.
B: I don't agree with you. He can do many things and

여기서 중간의 B의 말은 그는 달리기를 제외하면 아무것도
없어 라는 뜻이 됩니다. 약간 부정적인 의미를 담고있죠.

여기서 B의 말은 혼자살 땐 피자가 최고라는 뜻이니 B가 피자를 얼마나 선호하는지를 나타내고 있죠.
따라서 nothing but은 문장의 흐름에 따라서 그 뜻이 달라질 수가 있습니다.

그럼 anything but에 대해서 알아볼까요?

A: Have you watched movie 살인의 추억?

여기서 B의 말은 그는 영화에서 어떤 역도 소화할 수 있지만 로맨스 영화에서는 얼굴 때문에 안된다는 말입니다.
따라서 nothing but 문장과는 상반되는 뜻을 갖고 있다는 것을
