Baguio City’s Burnham Park Orchidarium

I have been to Burnham Park countless times over the years but had never known about its Orchidarium. Tucked on one of its corner, you’d hardly even know it’s there unless you happen to pass by its generic gates (its banner isn’t even a permanent oneGazebo at Burnham Park Orchidarium.)Orchids Galore at a Greenhouse at Baguio's Orchidarium

During this recent Baguio trip, I accidentaly discovered it after seeing a glimpse of its gates on the way to the park’s comfort rooms. Thank goodness for that.

On first glance, I thought it was just a small part of the park filled with orchids and what-nots, similar to those small plots of land selling plants in Manila. I was totally surprised by its size as we went deeper into its rock-paved pathways.

The place was huge! We went through gazebos and maze-like paths, all the while taking photos of all the interesting flowers we came across. This is a macro photographer’s heaven. It’s just too bad that even though the weather then was cold, 16 degrees in fact, there were hardly any water droplets found on plant leaves.A Vendor Sipping his Morning Coffee at His Plantshop in the Baguio Orchidarium

The maze wound on and on, sometimes we’d encounter dead ends and have to go back the way we came from, the garden was really vast.

We eventually ended up at one of the streets at the back of Burnham Park where a number of plant stalls line the area. Here you can buy everything from colorful flowering plants for your gardens to medicinal ones you can use for your pains.

I definitely recommend dropping by the Orchidarium if ever you find yourself at Burnham Park, it’s like finding your very own secret garden along the familiar paths of the park.
